We believe that all children should have access to sustainable foods in schools. A lunch menu, sourced from seasonal, small-scale producers has the power to change the way we think about school lunches and education as a whole. It's a vital part of the day; an unparalleled opportunity to connect to place and person while learning that the foods on our lunch trays have a consequence felt in our communities, the local economy and the natural world.
At its core FoodCycle is about adventure and education. In April 2012, a team of cyclist embarked on a self-supported cross county from Casco Bay (Maine) to San Francisco Bay (California) to 'pedal' FoodCycle's vision. Along the route we stopped at farms and schools documenting the emergent farm-to-school movement, school garden projects and school nutritional reform initiatives taking place across the US. We hoped to illustrate how these projects impact children, farmers, communities and the local economies involved.
