During the season, the Tribeca Greenmarket kicks it every Saturday morning.
 

We used to live in Tribeca, New York, and we had only to walk across the street to enjoy the Tribeca Farmers Market.

We looked forward, every Saturday, to talking with the  vendors, hearing their stories from the farm, and not incidentally buying great stuff to eat.

Recently, we were back visiting the old neighborhood on a brilliant August Saturday morning, saying ‘hi’ to old friends. Reminiscing on how lucky we were to have been a part of such a beautiful community, Tribeca Farmers Market astounded us once again.

We caught up with Tom Margotta, the farm manager of Stokes Farm. (Try Stokes’ tomatoes if at all possible!) He reported that the farm was thriving and that demand is way up for the vibrant produce they provide. He excitedly told us about one of their newest restaurant customers, Mulberry & Vine, located on Warren Street right around the corner from the market.

Alex Villani’s Blue Moon Fish stall was bustling–more than four people shelling out fish to very eager customers!

We loved hugging Pam Clarke Torres’ neck, and bought some honey from her fruit farm, Prospect Hill Orchards.

As always, the flowers from Lebak’s Farm were gorgeous, the chocolate milk from Ronnybrook Dairy tempting.

Looking back to those days when we would fill our baskets with the finest ingredients and return to our tiny Manhattan kitchen to make great meals, I now realize that the Tribeca Farmers’ Market was the original source–the inspiration behind Handpicked Nation. It was there that Craig and I began telling real food stories, about the very people described above.

Our deepest thanks to all those who get up early, load their trucks, and drive in to the city to provide the best our fertile region has to offer.
