As we’ve built up our community here at HandPicked Nation, we have met some truly incredible farmers, ranchers, makers and thinkers in the real food movement. Which prompted the thought, why not share a little more about the real people of real food with our readers?
Welcome to another addition of HandPicked People!
Craig McCord has been digging on real food for a while now. Working with his wife Staci Strauss, Craig has created everything from awesome foodie t-shirts to wonderful videos about the people who feed us. Oh yeah, AND they co-founded HandPicked Nation! How did Craig get to be such a fan of real food? After years spent making national television commercials, Craig and Staci traveled to the south of France to film a jazz documentary, experiencing how vital the local farmers’ market was to the community and the importance of knowing where your food comes from.
This passion for good food and great story-telling has taken Craig and Staci down a remarkable path, interviewing stellar figures like Chef Dan Barber of Blue Hill, self-proclaimed “lunatic farmer” Joel Salatin, and food writer extraordinaire Betty Fussell.
This country is in the midst of an important conversation about quality food, sustainability and hunger, and Craig McCord is doing his part to keep the momentum going by spotlighting these creative, hard-working food folks. We’ve also launched an indiegogo campaign to raise funds that will enable HandPicked Nation to produce even more of these important food stories.

Describe real food in one sentence. Real food is food that is real good for you.
What’s your first food memory? My mom let me have ice cream for breakfast once, when I was very young. It was part of the family mythology for a long time.
If you were a food or flavor, what would you be? Sweet, of course.
What are the 5 food things you must always have on hand? Salt, pepper, olive oil, butter and wine.
What is the one professional rule you never break? I NEVER undertip.
What’s going to be your next meal? Grilled pastured pork chop and chopped kale salad.
