As we’ve built up our community here at HandPicked Nation, we have met some truly incredible farmers, ranchers, makers and thinkers in the real food movement. Which prompted the thought, why not share a little more about the real people of real food with our readers?

We think it’s fantastic that the next generation is getting so involved in the real food movement. A lot of young people are trying their hand at farming, gardening, raising chickens, and being more conscientious about the food chain in general.
Gabriella DiGiovanni is definitely among them, attending the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, focusing on international agriculture and rural development.
Being in the midst of a promising shift in education towards sustainable and organic farming, Gabriella keeps us clued in to what the future may hold for our food system. If she is any indication, we think the outcome looks promising.

Describe what you do in ten words or less. I’m a college student studying agriculture and the environment.
Describe real food in one sentence. Real food makes you feel good, body and soul.
What is your first food memory? My first food memory is picking rhubarb with my mom from our home garden in the summer, then watching her bake strawberry rhubarb pies.
If you were a food or a flavor, what would you be? Salty!
What are the five food things you always have on hand? Olive oil, portobello mushrooms, almond milk, hummus, green tea.
What is the one professional rule you never break? Be on time.
What’s going to be your next meal? Steamed kale with garlic and olive oil and a black bean veggie burger.
