As we’ve built up our community here at HandPicked Nation, we have met some truly incredible farmers, ranchers, makers and thinkers in the real food movement. Which prompted the thought, why not share a little more about the real people of real food with our readers?

Welcome to another addition of HandPicked People!

We could not be happier to have found Sherrie Graham and her wonderful blog twenty-two pleasant. The second we read her charming words and saw her lovely images, we knew we had found a kindred spirit.

Sherrie has shown us the glory of glass jars, the delicious delights of pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, and the effortless enjoyment of making your own chai tea concentrate. There is a decided aesthetic angle to her approach to cooking and baking, and we love how it appeals to all of the senses.

Sherrie is definitely passionate about making a tasty homemade life for herself and her young family. She says, “life doesn’t get much better than a cup of tea served with a warm biscuit, plenty of butter, and homemade jam.” Agreed, Sherrie, very much agreed.

Describe what you do in ten words or less. My days are spent mothering, teaching, soapmaking, thrifting, eating, and cleaning!

Describe real food in one sentence. If it was served in my great-grandmother’s kitchen, it’s real food.

What is your first food memory? The first time I saw my mother’s best friend make a salad dressing from scratch, it rocked my world. I was probably 6 or 7 years old, and I remember exactly where I was standing in her kitchen and what she made – it was a simple coleslaw dressing. I learned a lot in her kitchen – she let me help make breads, sauces, stews, and pickles.

If you were a food or a flavor, what would you be? Lemon bars! Oh, lovely lemon bars.

What are the five food things you always have on hand? Plain yogourt, butter, maple syrup, rolled oats, and eggs. It’s a sad day in our kitchen if we run out of any of those!

What is the one professional rule you never break? I don’t post negative things about my professional work – it doesn’t serve a purpose and, well, isn’t professional!

What’s going to be your next meal? Fresh, local haddock!
